We have activities designed just for you!
A little afraid to start? We have fitness classes that will get you back on track to better health while ensuring you feel safe and secure!
Come in with your brace, crutches, cane, walker, or wheelchair! You will safely start exercising from a seated position in a chair while our instructors keep a caring eye on you. Our instructors are there to ensure you are using the proper form to prevent injury, as well as just be sure you don't overdue!
After consistent participation, you will find yourself growing stronger each week. Gradually you may start standing beside the chair and holding on for stability (instead of being seated the entire class), then standing beside the chair without holding on, and possibly lose the need for the chair altogether! Our classes concentrate on mobility, flexibility, endurance, and strength. These attributes keep us active and living independently!
If you're an older adult, balance exercises are especially important because they can help you prevent falls and maintain your independence. It's a good idea to include balance training along with physical activity and strength training in your regular activity.
And your body's needs will be matched with your spiritual needs! Before or after class you can play a card game, play chess or checkers, read the paper or just sit and chat with new friends - all the while knowing you are in a safe, Christian place.
Our Y offers SilverSneaker® classes Monday through Friday at our main location as well as several times per week at our satellite site in Lawrenceville, Virginia on the second floor of the Brunswick County Library.
