Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
  3. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
  4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA.
  6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  8. Attends all staff meetings and training.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 16.
  2. Certifications: CPR/AED/Basic First Aid
  3. Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  4. YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

     2.  Ability to lift equipment, and lift a small to average size child.
